It all begins with a blank canvas

I live in Wellington, New Zealand’s capital city, at the southern tip of the North Island where Cook Strait divides the North and South islands. With sea on three sides we get every kind of weather, beautiful seascapes and hills coated in many shades of green. I am fortunate to be surrounded by the beauty of lush green hills and boundless skies, inspiration is never far away. I watch with envy the birds flying over this vista.

My painting captures a moment in time and allows the viewer to develop their own interpretation about what they see. Working intuitively I embark on a journey where each layer added or removed, every mark made, the complexity and depth of the final art work gradually unfolds.

A favourite quote from J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851)

“My business is to paint what I see,
not what I know is there.”
